Turquoise carving is an emerging and creative art. This beautiful art began in the 1970s due to the existence of one of the best turquoise mines in the city of Neyshabur. Turquoise carving was first invented in Mashhad by Yousef Hakimian and was performed on jewelry, then it was taken to Isfahan by a craftsman named Haj Dadash and became popular in some provinces, including Tehran. The method is as follows: first, a copper, brass, silver or jewelry container is selected as the base, then the part that should be carved with turquoise is identified and its surroundings are soldered and decorated with a thin metal thread two or three millimeters high. Then, after cleaning, the small or large pieces of turquoise are separated (graded). Then, the desired object is heated to about 30 degrees Celsius and, at the same time, some powdered varnish is sprinkled on the desired parts until it melts, and then, turquoise pieces are placed on the work in such a way that it covers the entire desired surface. If the surface is circular, the turquoise-picking process is carried out in several stages. To fill the empty spaces, the container is heated to 40 degrees again, varnish is sprinkled, and the empty spaces are covered with smaller stones, and finally, the very small and empty spaces are filled with a special blue mortar. Then, the surface of the work is polished with the help of a stone grinding wheel (during the process, water must flow over the work) and in the final stage, it is polished, which gives a special effect to the desired object.
