Woodcarving is the art of creating relief patterns on wood, an art that was produced and developed in the lap of ordinary people. There is no specific and accurate date from when this art and craft began. Based on the research and study of historians, woodcarving in Iran has a history of more than 1500 years. Some believe that the use of this art dates back to before the Sasanian dynasty, but there are no precise historical observations supporting this theory. But the capitals of the interior columns of Persepolis cannot be ignored. The oldest carved work found dates back to the first half of the third century AH, which is a wooden door panel located in the old Grand Mosque of Shiraz. The period of construction of this carved wooden door dates back to the time of Amr Laith Saffari, one of the emirs of the Saffarid government.
