Chit-sazi or calligraphy is the art of printing or embossing on fabric. In the 11th century, during the Safavid dynasty, during the reign of Shah Abbas Safavi, calligraphy flourished due to the great desire and special enthusiasm of the palace dwellers for this art. The peak of this art was from the Sufi period to the mid-Qajar period. The center of calligraphy, like many other Iranian handicrafts, is in the city of Isfahan, and it is one of the most important industries in this city. Isfahan's Qaysarieh Bazaar was the gathering center for calligraphy artists in the 10th century AH, and production workshops continued from the beginning of Qaysarieh to the end.
