Mosaic, or in Western language, mosaic. A craft that is made by putting together pieces of wood, metal, and tile to create a specific design and pattern. Mosaic reached its peak in the Byzantine Empire in the Middle Ages. This art was used in church murals, such as the mosaics of the Church of San Vittore in Ravenna, Italy. Some believe that mosaic came to Iran from India, but this is a false belief because during excavations in the burnt city, a wooden comb decorated with pieces of wood in the shape of flowers was found, which is 5,000 years old. Later, during the Seljuk period, this art was used to decorate tables, buffets, and doors. It was in the 4th century AH and the Seljuk period that tile mosaic reached its peak of perfection and flourishing, but in the 8th century, mosaic artists became much more precise and delicate. Among the oldest remaining monuments are the Green Dome of Kerman, the Blue Mosque of Tabriz, the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque of Isfahan, and the tomb of Sheikh Safi al-Din of Ardabil.
