Engraving is an art whose history dates back to the time of the Scythians or Scythians, who were Aryan peoples in the Caucasus. Unfortunately, there is no precise and clear documentation of the history of engraving, but based on research, in the late second millennium and early first millennium BC, the art and industry of metalworking flourished in Iran, especially in the north, northwest, and south of Mazandaran. One of the most important works from that period is the Hasanlu Gold Cup, which dates back to 1200 BC and probably predates the Median period. It is currently kept in the Museum of Ancient Iran and is one of the oldest and most impressive works of metal engraving with epic stories engraved on it. Engraving had special value and prestige since the first millennium BC, and the Marlik gold cups can be mentioned as valuable works of that time. Historically, the art of engraving witnessed many developments during the Achaemenid era. Although many works of art, including calligraphy, were destroyed during Alexander's invasion, this art has existed in Iran throughout all historical periods. Among these, the Seljuk period can perhaps be considered a turning point in the art of calligraphy.
